The KDDI Corporation and the Sharp Corporation are teaming up as part of the “Green Road Project”. The two are set to come out with a solar powered phone as of June. Unfortunately, the phone will only be available in Japan.
The two corporations have developed a solar powered phone that will be able to use a 10 minute solar-power charge to produce one minute of talk time. The 10 minute charge is also expected to allow up to two hours of standby time.
KDDI insists that not only will the device be able to provide a minute of talk time with only 10 minutes of sun exposure, but the sun should be able to charge up to 80 percent of the internal battery overall. There will be technology in the handset’s front face to allow for this type of storage ability.
The phone is expected to not only be solar-powered but waterproof as well. However, more details about the phone are still unavailable, as is the expected cost. The companies have not announced whether or not they are looking to expand further into the global market with the device at this time.
