Climate change will extract a high cost from a lot of people and other species, but there will be a few winners, too. Some of the winners are likely to be in Greenland, where a few dozen sheep farms and a handful of pine forests have been the only green things around in living memory. Now, it’s getting warm enough that farmers can actually grow some vegetable crops — so much so that grocery stores are actually starting to stock local produce. The trees are starting to wake up, too, and a few people are even talking about the possibility of timber production in the foreseeable future. So maybe some of us Canadians looking for affordable housing should be setting our sights on the Arctic circle, which could be the site of the next big real estate rush.
