One has to ask if privatization is the way to ensure the safest nuclear energy. While one might expect that big business has an economic interest in a sound , reliable product we have to recognize that only the profitable parts of the AECL will be sold and we as taxpayers will still foot the bill for research, development and regulation.
I have commented before on this subject and while I recognize that Nuclear is probably the only way to meet the growing demand for power it is still not the cheapest and if OntarioHydro is any example of the future of power generation, let it stand as the example for what nuclear will cost in the future. Nuclear is already one of the highest priced power sources and who will foot the bill, ie) cost to deliver power, debt recovery, expansion and development.....Don't look for inexpensive or affordable power in the future unless you can generate your own; but then, as I have stated before, they will likely find a way to tax the sun.
