I've done the Arbor Day thing twice. The trees they send you are only about a foot tall. The first time I gave them away to whoever would take them, so I don't know what happened to them. The second set (which was actually lilac bushes; the foundation gives you lots of choices) I planted in the garden where I used to live until they got established, then transplanted them to the fence line of the property. When I moved they were 7 or 8 feet tall and growing together to form a nice privacy barrier.

I bet you Toronto members could find a nursery to sell you baby trees like this for very little money--especially if you were interested in doing a mass planting where the trees don't have to be aesthetically perfect.
