Default Energy from fusion - the great new thing?

Are you convinced by the arguments about energy obtained from fusion? It's being hailed as the great new "safe" form of nuclear power. But the leading contender for such production, the doughnut-shaped tokamak, is still not fully developed, and it strikes me that this process is a very energy-hungry one, and not entirely safe.

I'm inclined to think that it would still be better to put the money into developing solar, wind and wave power.
