I think that it is already too late to stop or even try to reverse it as everything has been set in motion. The ice caps are melting, species are dying, more environmental illnesses are developing, etc. It seems that the powers to be are not really serious in taking care of this otherwise they would have done that already long ago.

Considering that this is a natural cycle that will reverse itself in time, I don't see why people are so upset. The history of the planet shows that this happens a great deal.
