Not really. In the past 2 weeks we've had both record highs and record lows here in north Florida; chances are we are average. Some parts of town have already seen freezing temperatures (when normal lows for October are only in the 50sF. This is about a month earlier than in average year. But we've also seen high temps around 90 degrees F which is unusual but not unheard of for us.
I’ve got cucumbers in my garden that I planted in September, but they didn’t grow as fast as they should have so they won’t produce anything before frost kills them. I’ve also had potatoes (that I missed harvesting last spring) sprout last September when normal planning time for them here is February. If anything the weather has been cooler than normal late summer/early fall.

I've heard that this will affect plant life, with plants using energy now that they should be saving for next spring.

How can this be? If temperatures are still warm, aren't plants still growing- meaning they are still making food that they can store for next spring?
