Hey-
I am also from Toronto.
I have to agree with getting rid of the gardner.
The waterfront also needs to be revitalized.
I would also make it mandatory that all businesses take part in the green roof top initiative. Right now grants of up to 15,000 are being offered for those who are willing to add some green space to their roofs. As of this summer no one had applied! In some German cities you are penalized if you don't have a green roof, I think we should follow suit!
A car toll is also a good idea for downtown, there is way too much traffic as it is.
I would also put restrictions on garbage coming from apartment buildings and condos. Residents can throw away as much trash as they want and because of this a lot of time recycling programs and composting is not promoted as often. They should have a bag limit like everyone else. David Suzuki, with a family of four only throws away one grocery bag of garbage a week! I think everyone should try and do the same.
