Re: Unusual energy saving tips
When you make a cup of tea or coffee, make a flask full instead & keep it in a thermos. That way you won't be reboiling the kettle all day long.

how much would something like this cost? It is an interesting idea but I find an ordinary kettle and a mug with water works just fine. LOL

Re: Unusual energy saving tips
Here in India, there is also a novel idea used for cooling homes as we have most of the time warm climate. Homes have a curtain made of a special plant called khus on which when water is pured it gets moist and as it gets cooled off the whole room becomes cool and also leaves a mild fragrance....

Re: Unusual energy saving tips
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not but anything that has a standby mode or a transformer that is warm when the device is not on it is still using power. Cable boxes are a big one, mine is always hot even when it's not on and it's using quite a bit of power even though I only use it an hour or two a day. So unplugging electronic devices and chargers when you aren't using them can save a lot of power over a years time.

Yes, this is a good post because it has made me think about all the small things that I can change - and lots of small things add up to significant energy saving.

Re: Unusual energy saving tips
Don't wait for special occasions to eat dinner by candlelight (just be sure your wick is lead-free). I also bring my face soap to the shower and wash my face there rather than do a separate wash at the sink. If I have the time, I'll collect run-off rinse shower water to use on plants ( I use very gentle biodegradable soaps anyway)
