when i remodelled my kitchen i decided not to have a dryer included, and i dry my clothes outside in the garden... but in the winter time i put things on my many long radiators, and also on a rack like this one in the bathroom, which is large enough not to be an annoyance.

For those of us that need to heat our homes in the winter/cold seasons, drying clothes inside which adds extra humidity into the indoor air will actually cost more money and use more energy than drying them in a dryer. The reason for this is that more humid air is harder to heat, as you are heating both the air and the humidity. Your furnace will have to use a lot more energy to heat your house to the point where your clothes will dry inside than what you would have used if you had put your clothes in the dryer, which presumably has an air tube to send the humid air out into the outdoors, so that this harder-to-heat humid air does not enter your home and require additional heat from your central heating.
Feel free to correct me if you feel that I am wrong.
What you say makes sense. I live in a relatively small house and in the winter it is impossible for me to dry everything inside. I feel it is better for me to use the dryer than to have the heating on higher and for longer than usual.

Actually I have always hung my dark clothes to dry. They don't fade as fast and you're also saving energy!

I am surprised that they don't fade as fast, I would have assumed that the natural light/sun light would fade them more.

Talking Re: Hanging Clothes Out To Dry.

My house is too dry in the winter anyway. So I need the moisture or I'll get bloodly noses.

And all that lint the drier makes? That's your clothes being slowly destroyed! So hanging up is better for your fashionableness too.

I love hanging up my clothes. It's easier to keep them wrinkle free and they don't get warped over time either. And they smell so good!

Drying clothes on a clothes line is a great way to save energy. This not only helps you go green but also saves money on electricity bills.

Now we can line dry again. Although we live in the basement, we have access to the back yard and hang a rope up for our clothes.

My room mates and i made a clothes line of old shoe laces about 8 feet long across our back porch and it works great!
