Default Energy Saving Day - UK

Sadly, energy saving day in the UK has passed without any reduction in energy usage. People were asked to turn off electrical devices that they didn't need & consumption via the National Grid was monitered. A cold spell has been blamed for the lack of results, as any savings could have been eaten up in higher than normal heating usage.

Personally I think it was poorly promoted. Many people I've spoken to didn't even know it was happening, and those that did were probably not the people it should have been targeting in the first place.

I didn't know anything about it!

There has beena cold snap in the last few days, with the threat of SNOW! So people have been leaving the heating on for longer.

I am trying to educate my beloved other half about turning the damned TV off when he goes to sleep... He likes to watch tv in bed because he says it helps him relax before sleeping, only thing is he falls asleep and leaves the thing on, as well as the cable box, and it stays on untill i go up to bed hours later, playing to the furniture.

Drives me mad, and i have to keep interupting the work i am doing downstairs, to run up and turn it off GRRRRRRRRRRR

I have threatened to remove the TV from the bedroom, so that he'll have to stay downstairs to watch, and then will turn it off when he wants his bed.

You can get TVs with a timer incorporated in them that will switch themselves off after a preset amount of time. Might be worth investing in when yours needs replacing Stav? It won't solve the problem of it remaining on standby, but it would be better than it playing full I suppose & you could switch it off properly yourself later.

I had not heard anything about this either. I would love to see more places do something like this but try to promote it more to reach more people. I think that this could be a great way if done right to promote a good cause.

I could use one of those timers for the tv. I am terrible at that because the only way I can fall asleep is with the tv on. Sometimes I will wakeup and it is off because hubby has turned it off.

Oh yes, my hubby is notorious for leaving the TV on and falling asleep. Speaking of which, I have a TV to go turn off.....

Isn't there supposed to be one of these events this weekend? I'm hoping it's not cold here, but who knows. It doesn't seem like spring at all lately.

My husband noodles about on his guitar, watching the TV without the sound on. He says it gives him song ideas, but he also points out that John Lennon used to do the same thing.Well....(he's so good about everything else!)
