Default Saving energy in the kitchen

I don't know about anyone else but the kitchen's definitely never empty in this house. Someone's always either prowling through the cupboards, raiding the fridge or cooking. Funny how the only one that seems to clean up is me though!

Anyway, I thought these kitchen energy savers were worth mentioning. Some I'd heard, some I hadn't. There's about thirty things listed.

Thanks Serenity. This is great information and even though I've heard of some of the tips and use them, I learned a few other things too.

Thank you so much for the information. I wish I could find a way to keep my sons out of our fridge. They are constantly standing in front of it trying to decide what they want. Drives me nuts.

Thanks for posting this. These were some great tips. I have really been working on trying to save water and energy during dish washing. With 5 of us in the house, there are always lots of dishes to wash!

My dishwasher's "fast-dry" is broken, but I've found that after running it after dinner, I'll just open it up. In the warmer times, the kitchen window ( partly
over the dishwasher)will send in some breezes for a little free-drying. In the cold times, I leave the window shut, but sometimes I'll still have a little oven warmth left over, so I'll open both doors. Even with no warmth from the oven, keeping the dishwasher open all night will dry, sooner or later.

I guess they all do something to drive us mad. My son likes eating cereal and he always spills sugar and rice crispies on the floor, it drives me mad, I seem to spend my life cleaning the floor!

I used to have two sink basins but now with just the one it's a lot harder to be as conservative with water as I'd like hand-washing dishes. Does anyone know if the dishwasher or hand-washing conserves more water?

I've seen a report that says that a dishwasher is more water efficient BUT it's all going to depend on how frugal with water you are when washing up by hand! Allot of these sort of reports are sponsored by companies with a vested interest, so use your best judgement.
