I have sometimes seen on TV programs about people building their own ecologically sound houses. I saw one where this couple in the UK built a house from wood that would hardly need any heating at all due to its good insulation. The house also had many other interesting features. I think it was based on Swedish design.

I have also heard about whole villages and communities in other parts of Europe being built and run on green principles.

I just wondered if anyone here lives in such a house or community.

I'd love to build my own house - but it takes money!

I've seen some of those shows too... I agree it takes money but it's money you sitll would have to spend on normal materials... overall I think if you plan well you don't have to spend that much more on eco products... and there are a lot of things you can do to your house that are pretty much free and produce great results...

If it was worth it, I would do that. Right now it's just not worth the cost.

I love the cob houses & hay bale homes. They are very environmentally friendly & beat the general building ratings for insulation/soundproof by a landslide. One of these homes is my dream home! I'd like a moss roof that i can grow herbs on! LOL! a gal can dream, can't she?
