Change a light campaign
Yesterday, the US EPA and Department of Energy announced the "Change a Light, Change the World" campaign which aims to get all American's to change just one lightbulb in their house to a bulb that meets the effenciency requirements to earn an EnergyStar label. The energy star website has information about the campaign, as well as public service announcements and ways to get involved or spread the word. I'd love to see this actually happen!

Re: Change a light campaign
Those energy saving bulbs actually helped me from giving away a lamp shade!
The lamp shade was a vintage one so the inner support ring was a different diameter than all the standing pole lamps for sale (that I've seen so far), so I used one of those energy saving bulbs (with the large white bases) to counter weight the lamp shade on the light pole. I'm not allow to hang lamps from the ceiling so this was a great discovery for me...I was afraid I'd have to trash the whole thing! It wasn't like I could remove the outer portion from inner steel ring because it was integrated into the design.
I use those energy saving bulbs almost everywhere in my house. The only place I haven't replaced them is in the bathroom. I plan on changing them out though.
Does anyone know if there are any sunlight energy saving bulbs on the market? I want to grow some spinach and lettuce inside this winter and my apt isn't really set up to grow plants near the one window I have. I may buy a miniature solar set up such that it powers one bulb...

Or you can redirect the light using fibre optics. There are some on the market. And it won't be using any electricity

Please visit Redirect for information on light change from a Jewish perspective. There's also a prayer for new events adapted for putting in a CFL!

The last couple of weekends, Walmart has been having a promotion and pairing up with Toronto Hydro. For anyone not knowing this, you would get a coupon towards the purchase of LED Christmas lights in exchange for your old regular Christmas lights. I went last weekend to Walmart and exchanged my old lights for some new LED Christmas lights. Will save a lot of money in the long run and I'm looking forward to putting up the tree this year. Can't wait to put up my purple LED lights in the front of the house. Just need some time and some room for that.
By the way I've just hit 500 posts. Party time for me!!
