In reading that comment about taking home food I just got an idea. I very rarely can finish a big meal at a restaurant and take half of it home for later consumption. I know I do it most times, so I think from now on when I go out, I'll take one of my plastic storage containers along and ask them to put the leftovers in that. They will stay fresher that way too. I'll stick one in my car and in my backpack if I take a bus instead. I already keep a couple sets of simple utensils and a sharp knife in my car so I don't need those plastic utensils, even from fast food places and a couple cloth napkins. Also if I get those packets of condiments in a fast food meal and don't use them, I save them in a little holder in my cupboard for future use instead of tossing them out.

Dreamweaverr...I have a co-worker that takes her 1 tupperware item EVERYWHERE. And I mean everywhere!! Take out restaurants, nice restaurants, food court, potlucks, to the family meal to take home meals. She also uses that tupperware as a bowl if she's at a potluck. I know that many of my co-workers made fun of her at first. But this one person...who knows how many paper plates she has not had to throw into the garbage?

I'm a bit of a tupperware freak myself so I'm all over this one idea.

Default BYO Container

Great idea.
Never occurred to me.
Made me think of those accordian/catapillar style containers that collapse.
And Bring Your Own shopping bags: the "S" stores seem to be totally unprepared for self-packing (except Superstore). They should have a dedicated line for that.

The leaving the lights on issue is more personal to me. While I don't have a "diagnosed" seasonal affective disorder, I can feel grey during the winter. I live in a small apartment, really only 2 private rooms (bedroom & bathroom) and an open living/kitchen space. It's lighted with halogen lights, better than incandescent, not as efficient as flourescent, but with a broader spectrum. I believe I notice a difference in my mood from the bright colour of their light. Sometimes when I come home from work I turn everything on just to make me feel more energerized on a dark afternoon. Sometimes I like to sit in the dark and watch the colours fade outside.

OMG. I thought I was going to have an aneurism the other day. My husband was washing something in the sink. He would stick the item under the tap...then take it out and scrub the crap out of it. But then the water would still be running, and running, and running. For no reason! Not even to fill up the sink so he could scrub the item in the sink.

I was so ready to pull my hair out!

I use to be an energy/resource hog, but my family converted me lol. Tell him its not only about saving money, using resources affect the enviroment, for example: Global Warming. Tell him what the point is =P

Does that help?

I am so happy to hear that I am not alone. My hubby still runs the water when he brushes his teeth! I guess I am going to have to wait till our daughter will give him heck.
One family here started charging wasted energy members. One dollar had to go in a jar when the lights were left on or a computer left on. There were a lot of things. In one week they collected fifty bucks. They are donating it to a kids charity (I think). On the second week they only had twenty bucks. You get wise fast when you are fined. I tried that here but it did not work or go over well.

Maybe I should try that here, but I doubt it would work.

Our swear jar never worked

I nag at my friends for littering. They kind of laugh at me in a "aw, isn't she cute" kind of way, but they always pick up their litter.
