Default Bike to Work Week

June is Bicycle Month here in Vancouver.
The local Cycling Coalition is getting organized to sponsor it.
I'm passing this along so others can get involved too.

Quote:
Hello all,

The time has come to start letting bike stores know about Bike to Work Week and to start gathering prizes. Bike to Work Week needs volunteers to help with this process.

JOB POSTING – PRIZE COLLECTION – February to May
One of the most important elements of Bike to Work Week is providing incentives for participation. This means prizes. Prizes for Bike to Work Week really can be anything from gift certificates from restaurants, bike accessories, bikes, movie tickets, clothing apparel and the list goes on. (gift certificates work best) All outlets that contribute prizes for the Bike to Work Week campaign will have their prize posted on the website and will receive recognition based on the value of their contribution. Prizes will be distributed based on geographical area.
There is no current location for prize storage. Pick up of prizes will be arranged for a later date.
There is a one page information sheet available for interested volunteers. It is very important to track who has received this information. Please ensure you have the following information for all outlets that received this information.
Store Name, Contact Name, Suggested contribution (if they can already provide this), Address, Contact Info (phone and email). Please send this information to biketowork@vacc.bc.ca on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
For more information and for the one pager soliciting information email biketowork@vacc.bc.ca

JOB POSTING – INFORMATION TO POTENTIAL BIKE STORE SPONSORS – February - May
Bike to Work Week needs bike store sponsors to provide the following support:
·To set up a tent at one of the commuter stations and to provide free bike mechanics
·To provide prizes
·To provide discounts specifically for Bike to Work Week participants
In return for sponsorship, bike stores will be posted on the sponsor section of the Bike to Work Week website, and will have the opportunity to market their store to Bike to Work Week participants. Full information is provided on the one page information for bike stores.
Please ensure you have the following information for all bike stores that receive this information. Store Name, Contact Name, Suggested contribution (if they can already provide this), Address, Contact Info (phone and email). Please send this information to biketowork@vacc.bc.ca on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Volunteers are needed to go to all bike stores in the Lower Mainland to tell them about this opportunity. Existing personal relationships with bike stores are a great start.
For more info including the one page information sheet: biketowork@vacc.bc.ca
Hope this will inspire you to look for local events.

I'm about 3 miles from anything out here, with is a pretty chilly ride in 40 degree weather. I have been thinking about the long walk though. I can easily walk it, but it's going to take so long!

How are the cycle lanes there? I would never cycle without proper cycle lane s- it's so dangerous in big cities.

Reading this I remeber how recently the Government officers here in India were asked to come by bikes atleast one day of the week...and you know what they did?
They gave the lame excuse that everyone lives quite far off, and the whole day they have to meet many people so how can they work properly if they have to ride bikes...
Just imagine...this is how responsible people react to a good thing...

I never knew this atula that the officers were asked so, well most of them in other countries are currently opting for bikes as its summer time and even the hike in gas prices make them opt for a bike. This is the latest news though.

I don't know if we have this near me but I sure wish that we lived closer to wear my hubby worked so he could bike. He would do it in a heartbeat if we did live closer.

I would love to see something like this in our area but I don't think that we have one as of yet. I wonder how you would get one of these up and running to get people to participate?
