Christmas will be about the grandkids this year. For the rest of the family, I tried the idea of gift certificates. Last year we bought everyone Starbucks, and I heard no complaint. I'm not really a coffee drinker, but I understand that Starbucks is at least a little green in its business practices. Does that apply?

Each year we give the gift of a Museum membership to family members. There are tons of educational programs and the gift memberships help support the facility, which is terribly important with the economy tanking and falling sales tax revenues.

I hope things pick up for you, horselover.
I cut back by getting my students to cut out pictures from old Christmas cards to make new collage cards or garlands.

I have made many of the gifts I will be giving this year, some using recycled materials.

How about some water efficient devices like faucet aerators, low flow shower heads etc. These will not only help them go green by conserving water, but also reduce their water bills.
