Unfortunately, I was unable to access the movie. Even though I couldn't watch it, I'm wondering how you feel about hybrids as an alternative to electric cars.

Well, try this link to get to the movie, you need an updated version of Flash to access it.

Click here for the full movie!

As far as hybrids as an alternative to electric cars, They do have greater range and since they use gasoline the infrastructure for their supply is already in place. However hybrid cars are still run solely on fossil fuel and the batteries that they use charge up on the fossil fuels as well. They can achieve more gas mileage than normal gasoline cars because they use the batteries more efficiently by turning off cylinders when they are not needed and by shutting down the engine at red lights. Regenerative braking also helps keep batteries topped off.

I do think that electric cars are a better alternative to hybrids, but I do feel that hybrids beat normal gasoline cars hands down. If hybrid cars are what the public needs to get one step closer to electrics, then I consider hybrid cars a good thing.

Horselover, if you are on dial up it most likely would take you all night. The good thing about these videos is that you can load them up and watch them later. If you want, I highly recommend starting it loading before you go to bed, and watching it later on the next day. If the movie has loaded fully, you dont even need to be connected to the internet while you watch it.

I think that the bottom line here is pretty clear- the oil cartel would never allow the marketing of a purely electric car. I think that hybrids are a step in the right direction environment-wise, but corporate interests cannot be ignored.

Perhaps this is another way of saying "We're all in this together."

I agree with you bluemoon, I think plugin hybrids are the future... hydrogen doesn't seem to be a good solution.

What is a plug-in hybrid vs a normal hybrid?

Raptor 235 will have to answer that. I don't know the difference between the two.

I don't like the sound of this, but I believe that the answer to this issue lies in our ability to reduce toxic emissions rather than to eliminate them.

Promoting something (such as hybrid vehicles) that is an equitable solution for two opposing parties (in this case environmentalists and manufacturers) will result in widespread use of the element (the hybrids) and consequently a much greater reduction of toxic emissions than would have been accomplished by repeatedly trying to promote the electric cars (which have been an obvious failure in the market).

No, I don’t like the sound of the word “compromise” either- but don’t forget our objective here. It is to protect the earth, not to declare war on corporate interests.

From what I learned is that because of competition from mainly Japan we'll be able to enjoy plug in hybrid cars soon... and they state that the hydrogen car will most likely never take off because it takes 4x more energy then it produces... and you need to build infrastructure to support delivery of hydrogen... with plug ins it's ALREADY THERE JUST PLUG IT IN I LOVE IT
