Hi everyone, at
Online Petition - Promotion of cycling in Canada
there is a petition aimed at the Canadian federal government, asking them to promote cycling as a preferred means of transportation.
The petition lists the health and environmental benefits of cycling, and suggests ways that the Feds could entice more Canadians to become bicycle commuters.
We currently have over 1800 signatures, and have found an MP who will read a paper version of the petition in parliament in winter 2007.
If you would be interested in signing, and forwarding the link to any sympathetic friends, it'd be much appreciated.
Although the Feds are limited in what they can do to promote cycling (i.e. bike lanes are municipal generally), I see this as being a first step towards a country where people can bike from point A to point B as easily as they could drive there.
Take care.
