Christmas present, but sad day too.
My husband bought me a new baby hamster for Christmas yesterday, and less than an hour ago, our other hamster, Baby, died right in front of me.
The baby we got yesterday is so full of energy, she won't stop running.

Life is ironic sometimes. Sorry to hear of the loss of your other hamster. I know this one won't "replace" the other one. But hopefully, will at least console you a little.

Life is full of ironies, I know it.
We buried the other hamster tonight near the lake. We knew she wouldn't make it to see Christmas..
The new one, we now call her Mischief, spooks easily, but won't stop running in the wheel.

I haven't had any hamsters, but I haven't heard this before. What's the reason for that? Is it just if the first one had a particular disease, or something else indicating that it should never be done?

Hamsters are so cute. Sorry to hear about your loss. But as the saying goes, one door closes and another opens. Take joy in your new pet and enjoy your Christmas.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your hamster. Did you know that the hamster was sick? That is why we don't get them anymore though because their lifespan is not all that long and with the boys it is just to hard when they die so soon,

I am really sorry to hear about your other hamster. I know how the death of a pet can be devastating at times.
On the brighter side, you now have a new hamster that needs your attention and love. Cute!

Re: Christmas present, but sad day too.
YouTube - Mishcief, the hamster The lighting is poor, I wish I knew it at the time, but Mischief is sleeping now.
There's a new arrival as well.
A few days ago we picked up a dwarf hamster. I couldn't believe how small she was.

This one, more ironies here, does the exact same things the deceased hamster used to do. She'll climb up the cage bars and chew on them as well. She'll pull everything she can into her tunnels as well.

Re: Christmas present, but sad day too.
Well a year later, and 7 more hamsters later, yet another one died.
Later after we got the dwarf hamster, we got a male hamster and 6 more dwarf hamsters.
The one that looks like the small one above died earlier tonight in her sleep and we didn't know it.
I'm so depressed at Christmas time now.
