Default Seeding the Clouds?

Had to share this, and didn't think it fit anywhere else. We live near a bay where they have fireworks every fourth of July, and last night they put on a spectacular show, it sounded like a battle was being fought four blocks away (we went to the smaller, quieter show they put on the night before, for the locals.)
At what had to be the grande finale, my husband and I walked outside, and were suddenly being pelted by these giant raindrops! We thought that the fireworks particulates must have mixed in with the mist/rain that is nearly always about, and brought down an excellent, strange rain! It made me think of the old movie The Rainmaker.

Interesting concept. I never really though about the particles mixing in with the rain but I guess it would be possible. Did it rain long?

No, it didn't rain for long, only about ten minutes, but they were the biggest, fattest raindrops I ever saw. As soon as the stuff in the air from the fireworks blew away, they did too.

That is very interesting. I would love to know if there is an actual correlation between the fireworks and the rain?

Ugh, that actually sounds painful or dirty, lol. It does sound quite interesting, though.

It does sound interesting. Any news on this? Has it happened again or anywhere else?

Hasn't happened again here, so that makes me think all the more strongly that it must have been the fireworks.

It's interesting and something I heard for the first time. How could that be possibly happen?

I have admired some spectacular fireworks in the past, but unfortunately I'm going to rain on the parade by mentioning what I've heard about environmental damage. A science teacher told me that smoke from fireworks combustion can be laced with traces of heavy metals and sulfur. I guess I shouldn't attend them anymore.
