Default Going to the grocery store vs. online grocery shopping...

Which one would you prefer to do?

I myself have used the online service before, and I do like it except for the cost. I love the convenience of it all. Sitting on the computer, choosing what I want and having it delivered when I want it. It's so much easier than going out to the store. But, sometimes you just have to go to the store.

I'm thinking now, since the weather is getting colder, having groceries delivered is a good thing. I certainly don't want to freeze my butt off in the middle of winter just to do my grocery shopping. Of course, having a car would make going to the store easier. But I don't have one yet, so I'm stuck.

I'm using grocerygateway.com for my shopping. They only shop at Longos, which, I know, is more costly sometimes than even Loblaws. But hey, sometimes you pay for the convenience.

Other opinions?

yep I've used them before too... same thing tho the cost... but if you don't have a car and you're far away it's worth it... other wise you have to go spend your time and then pay for a cab... good quality of service from them too

I've found that on-line grocery shopping works for me because it's a 50 mile round trip to the nearest supermarket. It saves on fuel (I think ours is about double the price it is in the US) and I don't make 'impulse' buys.

A lot of stuff I do get locally though, organic/free range meat and veg from local smallholders.

Well, given our work schedules, going this route is a little easier for us. We'll see how we feel with it on Friday when the first delivery comes in. I probably won't become a regular occurence around here, but will happen sometimes.

I've only purchased 'specialty' foods online, but I've never done my entire grocery shopping online before. I like to choose which breads and produce I want so I get the freshest - maybe its just a mental thing but I like picking out my food at the store. I live in the middle of everything though so its not at all out of my way to go grocery shopping.
