Something very much like that happened with my parents' cat years ago. He got up into the ceiling and my mom went nuts trying to coax him out--and when he finally did he was covered with dust.
It seems like all cats like to hide in places that are either up high or too small for anyone to follow them. |

my cats are the same. I make sure they have little dark corners to get away and sleep soundly. I have a clothes cupbourd with deep shelves and I often find one or both sleeping in behind the clothes or any number of little cubby holes I leave for them. It took 2 weeks to get one of them out from under my counter when she first moved in. I let her out of the travel cage and zoom;straight through the open cupboard door and I had to put the food and watr in until she got feeling safer. My 3rd cat likes an empty laundry hamper because of the high sides and slits to look through. Makes her feel safe as she's a little skittish from being dumped in the wild and nearly starving. That or she's behind, in or under something or other and you can look all day. I nearly stepped on one hiding under a folded newspaper. My first two cats survived 30 days in a house locked up with a bunch of dogs before they came to my house. They all know how to hide or not be seen and mine like to play hide and jump out and scare the crap out of you as they run away laughing I'm sure.
lol! animal friends, gotta luv em. Sim |

Sure do. These guys love to get into trouble.
Snoopy, the youngest loves to try to attack my cursor. It's an animated dolphin, so the movement facinates him. Just a little while ago he was up batting my monitor. I have an LCD monitor so I have to watch him to make sure he doesn't knock it over. They love the stairs as they can run up and down all they want. And now they've discovered the sunporch. The Christmas lights are still up there, but they can't get at them. I have to hope to get a shot of all of them together one day and see what they look like. The 3 of them, Patches, Snoopy and Fluffy look almost identical. |

Workinman, you just haven't met the right cat. Just like dogs (I love them too), each one has its own personality--and some of them are so sweet, some are tough, and some are just goofy! My guess would be that the mean kitty had a bad experience when he was a kitten and just decided it was safer to keep everyone as far away as possible.
I had two cats I raised from kittens, and I could turn them upside down, brush their fur backwards, anything--they didn't care. But I had another one from a shelter and she was scared of her shadow. I couldn't even pick her up without her putting up a fuss. She'd had a bad experience and lost her trust. |

Oops, this is actually her sitting on the chair. Took this one 2 days ago. She's not camera shy that's for sure.
