Re: Plastic grocery bags
I have never heard of a city that bans recycling but I still believe that it can be overturned if there is an interest in doing something more about it.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
they are not charging for plastic bags, but the big supermarkets are now giving you back money if you bring your own bags with you. Not much, a few pennies, but it does mean people think about it, and bring their own.
Most ofthe 'green' bags I have seen for sale are 'fair trade' ones.. made by cooperatives in developing countries, where all the money gets back tothem.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
I still use plastic, but I reuse them as much as I can.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
I do still have some as well horselover, it will be a while before they are completely eliminated, but the ones from my local supermarket are now biodegradeable, and eventually that's how all bags will be.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
Some of our stores are making crappy bags now, they break easily. I guess they want you to upgrade.
But we forget to bring the cloth bags with us.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
I am also planning on reusing the produce bags. These seem so wasteful to throw away. Especially when we buy a lot of produce.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
maybe they are just cost cutting horselover, but if it encourages you to bring your own and re-use then it's a good thing!

Re: Plastic grocery bags
Probably.
Most of our stores sell the cloth bags, they're up at the registers.
I think I have to keep them in the car from now on.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
Yes, remembering to use the reusable bags has been a bit of a challenge. It is a new habit to get used to. I think I will need to make myself a note on my shopping list as a reminder to bring them into the store.

Re: Plastic grocery bags
That's everybody's problem it looks like! Remembering to take the bag with you!
I have taken to hanging mine on a hook by the door in my porch, so that I see it as I go out... and I STILL sometimes forget it! DOH!
