Re: Nine no-cost ways to reduce your home energy use
This is a very important topic and I am going to sticky it so it's at the top of the board.

I find it hard to imagine why people would want to dry their clothes in a drier rather than the open air when it's possible. I think air dried clothes smell so much fresher, and you can feel virtuous knowing that it costs you nothing.

I have our TV and other electronics on a power strip to make it easy to turn off at night. The difference may seem small, but it is more visible when living on solar power, I can see the change on the inverter.

Re: Nine no-cost ways to reduce your home energy use
People used dryers because they are lazy or they are in a hurry. I agree a new closeout will make your clothes smell better. But only if you live in a city that isn't over clouded with a lot of pollution. For example, I would never hang my closeout dry in New York City. I think they would come back dirty you can before I washed them.
Now somebody could create a hydrogen device like in the movie "Chain Reaction" with Keanu Reeves, we would have clean cheap energy. Knowing our government, they probably have it and they won't let "us" have it because it would thrust our economy into a tailspin. I think parading spinning out of control.

Great link. I wonder how much better our environmental situation would be if far more people could read something like that and realize how easy it is to save energy and money without having to do anything drastic?

They are all good tips and I praise you for helping make green living mainstream. Ironically, I made a similar post before I joined here (look in my signature)

I've got a huge chest freezer and am in the process of trying to fill it before food gets even more expensive. What I was told to do to save electricity was fill the space with empty cardboard boxes and take them out as I needed it for the food. That's what I've been doing and it seems to be working fine.

Great tip on keeping the freezer full. I never thought of that one. I have been drying my clothes on a laundry line and I love it.
I also open the door on the dishwasher before it hits the dry cycle to save some energy.

Re: Nine no-cost ways to reduce your home energy use
Another good way to lower your freezer expense by keeping it full. Take a baggie and fill it with ice cubes and close it up. If someone needs an ice pack it's already there. If company comes and you want to make something tall and cool to drink, you've already got your cubes. Otherwise, they just stay in the freezer, lowering your electricity bill.
