Following on from the previous thread about plastic grocery bags, it seems most people would use a cloth bag if they could find one that they liked & remember to take it out with them.
I reckon the answer to both problems is to make your own. Here's one design, though there's loads available. TUTORIAL: Singlet Style Shopping Bag (like the plastic shopping bag) Old curtians make a good fabric. They are strong, bold & cheap. |

I recently saw a bag someone had made from old plastic bags! She had cut them into strips and weaved them together like we used to do with straw, to make a more permanent bag.
I think it is a great idea to make your own. |

Bags made from woven strips of carrier bags are very strong. You can use the same method to make door mats (handy outside for muddy boots) and even beach slippers.
