The "No Computer" Rule
My BF and I decided that we were going to have a "no computer" rule after 10:00 PM, which can quickly turn into a no electronics rule. You can light candles and read a book, or just talk. It saves energy and encourages talking amongst the people in your household.

Great idea! Good to hear. Lol, I'm usually asleep before that though but I wake up early.

Re: The "No Computer" Rule
That is an interesting idea, it wouldn't work for me because I often don't get on to the computer until about that time, but I guess we could all adapt it to suit our own needs. I think we could perhaps have a computer free day each week. Better still perhaps we could have a mobile phone free day every week.

Re: The "No Computer" Rule
I'm all for a no electronic amusements period for my son. He's pretty good, but he's just developing into an internet junkie (like his mother ....?)

LOL Green-Moo, you sound like me. My son and I are as bad as each other, and my husband's the worst out of the three of us. I think if I tried the no computer rule we'd all suffer from withdrawal symptoms. I do like the idea of no electricity after a certain time. We don't watch TV at all apart from the odd DVD once a week at most, so I guess that balances it.

Re: The "No Computer" Rule
We have done this with our boys. We do it for a couple hours everyday on the weekends. I think that this would be a great idea for me and hubby to follow also. It would have to be done earlier in the day because he is usually in bed by 10:00PM. lol. It would make time for us both to spend quality time together.

I think that is a great idea. Not only are you saving energy, but you are promoting time together, and it's sure to enhance your relationship. I try to do this kind of thing with my kids, usually during the day, and we just turn off all the 'stuff' for a little while and have quiet time, or go for a walk.

Re: The "No Computer" Rule
Interesting! I don't think I could stomach doing this myself, but, I have been very conscious of electricity usage. For example, I now make sure to unplug devices when not in use, because many will take electricity even when not on (such as toasters, cell phone chargers, etc.).

We had an electrical fire on Christmas Day, a faulty (brand new) appliance was the cause. I was in the room when it started and I was able to prevent major damage, but it was terrifying how quickly it took hold. Now absolutely everything is unplugged when not in use. I think we should all treat electricity with greater respect. We got compensation for the damage to our home but it took months before I could sleep through the night without getting up to check everything was OK.
