Hi. Looks like people are just starting to introduce themselves but I figure i'll jump right in to something that will hopefully inspire discussion. A few months ago I realized that while there are lots of people out there completely devoted to environmental issues, there are a lot more people who don't really have the time or interest to devote to saving the planet but who would be willing to do a small thing here or there to help out. It is these people, I think, (and I consider myself one of them) that need to be inspired, to be shown that by making a small habit change here or there it will really make a difference. I started writing about it a bit on a blog, (and haven't been able to devote as much time as I'd like), and continue to look for new ways to help the environment that take minimal effort to do. The way I see it, people will be much more willing to do things if they know it won't take much effort--it's a lot easier to get a lot of people to make a little change then to get a few people to completely revolutionize their ways. Anyway, hopefully this new community will be a great way to foster and exchange ideas, to inspire ourselves so we can go out and inspire someone else. that's a very good observation Lauren, I completely agree... I think a lot of people are willing to change... a lot of them don't know where to start... I started aboutmyplanet about 7 months ago and just recently started working with actual writers to produce content they love it... they love the idea of being able to express them selves and be heard...

Another example is here in Toronto, we've been having a lot of problems with power... just not enough power to go around so city of toronto and hydro start a program.... very very simple... this summer they asked people to use less electricity then the summer before... if they did they would automatically get a 10% discount on their fall bill....

great idea... and it worked we had no issues with power and people actually made an effort

I was just in Toronto a few weeks ago for work and was delighted to see public recycling containers on every street corner...I wish every city would adopt a similar program! I got the impression that Toronto was much more advanced environmentally than many US cities.

Ya the program works well... we also have special organic garbage at homes too... it's called the green bin and all organic garbage goes in there.. then you have your recycling and then the rest goes in a normal garbage container... Toronto is a good city we have had some hickups over the last few years with garbage but it's still a very clean city that I'm proud off... I just wish they would take down the main highway and put it under ground already I hate noise pollution
