Default Free energy under our feet, all you need is water.

Geothermal power generating plants, which make use of the planet's interior heat, are becoming increasingly popular around the world. Research is still being carried out into the most efficient way to extract the heat but commercial plants are already in operation.

The early use of geothermal was to heat buildings with water that was either already at a usable temperature or needed only minimal extra heating. Now, temperatures are being accessed that are high enough to be used in power generation turbines.

It would really be great if more cities and states would begin using geothermal power.

I agree, Trent. The Romans used to heat the floor of their villas with hot water, and we all know how much they loved a good hot steamy bath. I'm sure they must have used geothermal for other reasons; but my point is, if the ancient Romans could do it, why not us???

actually mollyl with technical advancements there are so many things very basic and eco-friendly used by our ancestors that we have simply forgotten...like the different cooling and heating techniques. sometimes they heated a bucket of water simply by keeping it in the sun for a couple of hours...but we must use the heating appliance....

Just so, Atula. I am seeing "new" ideas all the time that my Granny taught me years ago, such as using vinegar as a cleaning agent, etc. I know she'd be smiling if she knew; Granny didn't call what she did "green" or "saving the planet"; she called it "not being wasteful."

That is true Molly, I wish I had taken more notice of my Grandma. She was 'green' long before we used the term 'green'. She was such a big influence on me, but there is so much more that I could have learnt from her.

I have been trying for some time to be more careful about my consumption and not to waste resources. It is really satisfying and it doesn't feel difficult anymore, it just becomes routine.

That's true; it becomes habit and you stop thinking about it until someone notices what you're doing and asks you about it. Hopefully, you've become an agent of change, and that person passes it on, and so forth...

Actually as environmentally conciuos citizens of the world it is our responsibilty to pass on the good habits to people around us, not by words ofcourse but by action, when they do see things working for us, they too will easily switch to the eco -friendly options.....
