Default Body Heat

Companies everywhere are looking for new and innovative ways to conserve energy and use natural energy sources where they can. Recently in the news there are two very innovative and interesting ways harness heat.

One company in Sweden is looking to get everyone involved. Well, maybe not everyone will be involved, but they will contribute something very valuable – body heat. The real estate company Jernhusen AB, is looking to their daily commuters in the train terminals. Each day thousands of people hurry to catch a train to work at Stockholm’s railway station. The company believes they can take the body heat from those commuters and use it to help heat nearby buildings. In fact, the firm says the system they are developing will heat about 15 percent of a 13 story building. You can find the entire article here http://aboutmyplanet.com/alternative-energy/body-heat

This makes me think of "The Matrix". When the humans burned this guy the machines used the body heat from humans in suspended animation(?) to create energy to keep themselves going. Just goes to show you how close science fiction is to science fact.

Very interesting, to say the least. Either way, whatever works! I like learning about new ways people are coming up with to benefit the environment.

This is a very interesting concept. I wish that I had the mind to look at something like commuters on a subway and realize that there is potential to use their bodyheat.

Haha. That is so unusual but really a great idea. I've thought about how much heat is generated in crammed public transit but would've never thought of this kind of idea. Really, so many days I've walked to the bus in the freezing cold then had to remove layers while commuting because of how many people are packed in.

I would like to contribute my body heat! In the winter so many buildings are overheated and it makes me feel quite faint.

I create a lot of heat too when I bowel movements. People should look into that...it could also be another way of warming things! But yes, this is a stellar idea.

I too would like to contribute my body heat to make building temps more tolerable in the winter. I agree with Tater, during the winter, some buildings are so overheated! I find this especially true in the hospitals and doctors' offices.

I would have to agree about the hospitals being way over heated. I really think though that this is a great idea when you have all that wasted body heat.
