China's coal fired power stations.
Last night on the BBC news there was a report on China's coal fired power stations. Apparently, there are plans to build another 544 coal fired power stations! Eighty per cent of China's electricity already comes from coal.
The new and existing power stations are going to add significantly to global warming. Of course, it's not just China that is to blame, but other countries too have done their share of putting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Countries that are wanting to have fast economic growth to catch up with the standard of living of the West are in a difficult position in this respect: there is the demand for energy, so how do they meet it while at the same time staying safe and green?
