100 Mile Diet
I just started reading this book. Basically, it's about 2 people that have vowed to eat organic and locally. They were astonished that most food on our plate has travelled more than 1,500 miles. Why can't we buy locally? Maximum 100 miles.
It seems like a nice read. And extra nice as there are a lot of references to my hometown Vancouver.
Maybe of interest to some of you out there....

Re: 100 Mile Diet
I go to this website booklounge.ca to get recommendations of good books to go borrow at the library. I really enjoy books and happened to enter a contest and won the book. Not far into it yet.... =(
And yes, it is called the 100 mile diet.

Re: 100 Mile Diet
Ok...I'm about 3 chapters in and it's quite a good book. I didn't realize they had some recipes in there.
And my husband is totally getting into the book! He's 1/3 of the way into it and he's asking me to try it.
I think I'm willing to, but I want to see how these guys do it first. I'm hoping that because they live in the same area, I can draw on their experience. Especially since I have kids, taking a lot of time to research certain places is out of the question.
I'm looking at some of the challenges that they're dealing with...how about salt? Salt comes from different places...but there are no local salt mines around.

Re: 100 Mile Diet
Don't have to have salt, there is a lot of natural sodium in foods =/

Re: 100 Mile Diet
yes...I know. But sometimes adding a little extra salt just makes it taste SO much better!

Re: 100 Mile Diet
I have never heard of this book and am intrigued by the possibilities. However I live in a small town, how would I find things locally such as sugar, flour even meat?
