I actually said I didn't see the need for special supplements Workinman. I personally don't detox, but I would imagine that would be far more effective than most of the supplements aimed at the digestive tract that are on the market.

I sort of wonder about making a "week" of it instead of a better lifestyle. I've done fad detox, that is basicly juiced veggies and lots of water and fiber.
I prefer to just fix my life on a daily basis. I don't take meds of any kind. Don't need to take any. I make sure I eat whole, raw, organic fruits and veggies. The more the better. I drink plenty of water, filtered. I researched the filter prior to purchasing it to ensure it gets out what's in my water. If you are loading up on raw fruits and veggies daily, you are getting enough fiber. I eat yogurt and other cultured items occasionally to get the good bacteria back in my gut. I love a hot steamy bath. My version of a sauna.
To whoever posted McD's. Eat healthy for a year and see if the thought of a McD's burger doesn't turn your stomache. Gross.

Oats help a lot, I eat porridge every morning. I also eat natural yoghurt regularly and lots of fruit and vel. I try to eat simple foods prepared from fresh ingredients and I avoid foods that are not good for my digestion (coffee, artificial sweeteners and fizzy drinks among other things).

I see what you mean about the supplements. You, know, you can always find a lot of fiber in certain kinds of cereal. There is a brand called LiveActive that makes cereals with prebiotics and whole grain wheat for those of you who are interested. They taste really good because they use real fruits and nuts in their cereals as well.

Re: Digestive Conscisous Foods
I've heard of probiotics, but I have not heard of prebiotics. Was that a typo, or do some people say it differently? Raw fruits and veggies are wonderful for digestion because they contain enzymes that help break down the food. Yogurt is wonderful too because it helps put good bacteria back into your stomach.
My youngest child had GERD and I was able to get him off the medication (Prevacid) by feeding him more raw fruits and veggies and giving him a digestive enzyme each time he eats a meal without raw foods. I used to give him probiotics also, but he loves yogurt, so he really doesn't need them.

Re: Digestive Conscisous Foods
No, it actually wasn't a typo. The difference between probiotics and prebiotics is that the "pro" adds to the good bacteria in your body, while prebiotics like the ones in LiveActive feed the bacteria already there. If you want to check it out, they talk about it on Kraft - LiveActive - Home

Re: Digestive Conscisous Foods
Ok, thank you for the information on prebiotics. I did not know the difference. However, the fact that KRAFT is involved in making and marketing the product has already raised some concerns for me. I generally avoid anything processed, packaged, or fortified. If it doesn't occur naturally, I try not to eat it. That's not to say I don't eat cooked food, I just think any tinkering or processing takes away from the health benefits of most foods and is just marketing hype in the end. I will check it out and read more about it.

i agree with u 100% and eat basically the same way that u do. the detox diet i talked about is a great way to 'jumpstart' a change to a better lifestyle and shocks the system into a cleaner state.
even tho i eat healthy and live clean 99% of the time i still seem to benifit from a week of extreme detox...

Re: Digestive Conscisous Foods
This whole subject has been very interesting for me. I don't think I could do a week of fasting, but do you think that a couple days (3) would show some difference?
