I don't routinely buy organic but I do buy certified free range local food. I try hard to buy good local food and I have found that I can do without a surprising amount of things (organic or otherwise) that need to be brought from across the world.

I have bought organic cotton clothing and as I got it from a direct factory outlet it wasn't that costly too...feels comfortable to wear and also good to think that I am wearing something good for the earth...

I do worry about buying clothes, it is so hard to know if the people who produced the material and made the garments have been treated fairly, we hear so many stories about exploitation.

Organic is my choice too. Going Organic really worth it. I like organic food because of their great taste. And also you can avoid toxins by eating organic produce. The main thing is Environmentally, organic food is gentle on the earth.

Some organic clothing brands also say they are "Fair Trade" as well as Organic.

How can it be gentle on the earth if it has travelled half way around the world to get to you! What you think organic means is often not the reality especially with the imported stuff. Give me local farm assured (non intensive) every time. I will buy local organic too if I know where it came from and how it was reared. People need to think harder about this issue, if it needs to travel miles to get to you think hard about cutting it out of your diet. It can be done - see the other threads on this subject.

Absolutely right, people really must think more deeply on this. Organic does not necessarily mean green and it doesn't always mean welfare friendly. There is no common definition of organic. Support your local farmers markets and farm shops and if you must buy organic, buy local.

Good point. "Fair Trade" in clothes, and coffee, as well, tells us it was ethically gotten. They may be a bit more expensive, but it's worth it.
