Re: Unplug It
My husband has all his musical and computer equipment plugged into the extension strips, so all he has to do is flick one switch and everything is turned off.

Re: Unplug It
Yes, I believe the EPA calculated that the average American household loses at least 50 watts a day when equipment is left on standby mode.

Re: Unplug It
I never leave anything on standby. Everything gets fully turned off at night except the fridge obviously.
From my point of view it's more about safety than anything. I'm not taking any chances of an electrical fire starting.

perhaps if you had a specific plug strip that is just for chargers.. tell everyone to use that one... then you can turn them all off at once...

Re: Unplug It
Unplugging can save more energy. This should be followed by everyone in family.

Re: Unplug It
I really like what justontime and RFL1986 said about visual cues on plugs or outlets or whatever. If we are to get into a new (for many of us) mindset about energy conservation, we need all the help we can get. I can get into a habit-- but to get into a good habit I may need a little help at first, lol.
mollyL mentioned plugging common things into the same extension strip, and it's a great idea! We live in a very old building with very few outlets, but we've managed to use powerstrips to our advantage. We can turn off things plugged into an entire strip without defrosting our fridge/freezers or alarm clocks for work. We just have to pay attention to what we're plugging in, and where!

Re: Unplug It
Wow, no wonder our electric bills is so high! I didn't realize that these items were still using power even they're turned off.

Re: Unplug It
My husband is a musician, and I got him to put all his electronics on one or two power strips (depending on what and how many are playing). I just casually kind of walk over there and turn off the strips with my big toe. Mammoth power bill diverted!

Yup, that's right chris,
Since I put almost all of my electronic devices (tv, gameconsoles, etc.) on powerstrips, and switch everything completely off at night, I noticed the bills were lower than before.
