Default The Shades

Sunlight equals heat. Less sunlight equals less heat. So the main thing you can do is draw the shades.

True, it does work. But we live in a basement so it's naturally cool down here.

That is the coolest place is the world to be in any home or apartment. You are soooo lucky.

I used to live in a basement and you are so right that it stays cool down there without having to do anything. You are also right about having shades on your windows and pulling them down when there is direct sunlight coming in helps a lot.

Yeah, drawing the shades works quite well in keeping out a bit of heat. Leave the window open to let in a breeze if you don't use AC, though.

Good point about drawing shades and leaving the windows open to let the breeze in. When it is unbearably hot, I just use a paper fan on my face to create a bit of extra breeze.

I like having the shades where you have a little wand to adjust how the shades are open. You can customize your sunlight, or lack of it, any way you want.
Basements are definitely the coolest place to go in the hot weather.

In India there are houses especially built in places like Rajasthan which get extremely hot during summers which have basements and people prefer to stay their all day long....when the temperature is more than 40degree celsius....

I have this big front window that I absolutely need to get a shade for but it is not your standard size window so the shades for it are expensive but we so need one for it.
