My partner and I have never bought/owned a new vehicle. We've certainly never had enough money to buy a vehicle outright, and we've never been able to commit to paying monthly payments for years on end to buy one on time. We can cut corners, make sacrifices, and go without-- in fact, we have-- but we're simply not in a position to purchase a new vehicle in the near future.

I'm sure, as time goes by, hybrids and other alternative fuel option vehicles will be much more abundant and available to purchase "used". Until then, we'll continue to be as conscious as we can about walking, public transportation, and carpooling.

I don't think most people give a thought to the environment when buying a new car. They just look for a nice car with as many gadgets and comforts as possible.

I share a car with my 4 roommates. Yes we could all buy our own, but since we live in the city we do most of our traveling by bike or public transport. If I would buy a car I'd certainly want an electric car if I can afford one.

I prefer walking anyday to driving...but yes kernow..I think you are so right..people in general do not really bother about the nevironmental effects of a car rather its look, mileage and their budget while buying one...
