Default Cars running on methanol.

Apparently some racing cars have been run on methanol - a simple alcohol that can be made cheaply from methane.

An advantage is that methanol produces little carbon monoxide when it burns. However, if there is insufficient air, it can produce methanal which is carcinogenic.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to run ordinary cars on methanol? With engines that supplied sufficient air, the production of methanal would not be a problem.

Question Re: Cars running on methanol.

Current methanol production is from the Steam reformation of Methane,or so it would seem. CH4 + Steam = CH3OH +H does that sound right?
