Default Hydro-electric power.

On the face of it, hydro-electric power looks like a green way of producing energy, but the damage to the environment involved in creating dams is maybe not such a good idea.

Some communities even lose their homes as the result of the creation of dams.

Also, dams always look dangerous. They could be vulnerable to attack.

So, I can't say I am ecstatic about them as a solution to energy problems.

Well the good thing about hydro electric dams is that the vast majority of the locations that are ideal for damming, have already been built, so it is sort of a problem that is not increasing too much anymore.

i live near pittsburgh pennsylvania.. we have 3 major rivers here and all of them have existing dams that were buiilt in the late forties i believe... these exising damns have huge potential to be fitted with hydo electric turbines.. i read an article years ago about an engineer who created such a setup and claimed that each dam could produce enough electricity for a small town! but of course nothing ever came of it...
but i feel that this kind of an attachment to existing flood control dams is a no brainer.. so why hasn't it happened?!?!

Could be the initial cost of it all. Could be that they're just too lazy. Who knows.
