Wink Biggest Loser helps pollution

Last night I watched the Biggest Loser show. They no longer use plastic bottles in the form of bottled water on their show or for their contestants. They have teamed up with Brita to accomplish this. I thought this was an excellent idea and I applaud them.

That's great, anytime a venue like that, that reaches a good deal of people, does something positive for the environment it's a very good thing

I missed this episode. I love that a big show such as this is getting involved. Like the above poster stated it is a great way to bring attention to this to a great number of people.

I didn't see this but any show with really high ratings doing things like this is great as far as I'm concerned. I've always been put off on many reality shows where the contestants/stars are walking around constantly drinking bottled water when they could so easily have implemented nalgenes and Brita filters to get the same quality.

They announced this on the very first episode this season. So if you missed the first episode you may not know it. But if you watch the show, you will notice everybody's carrying around these green bottles instead of the normal clear bottles that you buy. They are using the Brita filtering system. A great advertisement for Brita.

This is awesome. Good advertising for Brita indeed. And even better to hopefully get other shows thinking in the same direction!

This is also a good way to switch marketing tactics around too. They're being environmentally responsible while still pulling in sponsor money. I think if more shows get creative with how they pull in sponsors then it is more than possible to do little things to take public opinion in the right direction.

You're right about sponsors. I can think of one other show that would be able to do that. That would be Big Brother!

But what it also shows is that the public are becoming more aware and the demand for more environmentally responsible packaging is what the smart sponsor recognizes and delivers. The change away from water bottles on a prime time show, in my opinion, shows huge progress.

Another show that would be great for something like this would be the "Amazing Race". I don't tend to watch this one so I am not sure they might already be doing something along the same lines. But if not it would be a good one. I had seen the greenish bottles but didn't know that they had filtered water in them.
