We are lucky to have some fine tap water from a local lake called stumpy meadows. It's a snow fed lake. Once the water is treated though it does have some chlorine flavor. I don't drink tap water-we have a filtration system(charcoal, I think), hooked to our refrigerator water dispenser. The only problem is when the electricity goes out we lose the filtration. We are homeowners & we pay just under $50. for our municipal service if we haven't gone over the set usage amount limits. We also have a real 'wishing well' in the front yard with an electric pump to bring up water. We have a very high water table & water can be tapped at about 15 feet. We are planning on hooking up a hand pump to the system in case we ever need it.

I generally drink tap water. I let it sit for the chlorine to evap. I know someone who magnetizes his water by just placing a magnet in the bottom of the jug. Occasionally I boil water, but not on the regular. My dad is so against bottled water, he says that you don't know WHERE that water is coming from.

In London there is lead in the water in the older sections of the city so I don't drink water at my brother's house (old section), but I do where I live (newer section)...as long as I don't forget where I am I should be OK!

We have a spring fed well out here in the country. I see no sense in buying water when it's free. This also makes us more aware of wasting water.

We also have a Brita filter. I am currently looking for something better. Preferably a whole home system.

I usually drink from the tap, but my husband hates that and refuses to drink it. He'll only drink bottled water.

The town we live in has horrible tap water. When they send out the reports, it is scary to see the values. We seem to be on the high or low end of not good. Just barely passing all the required levels. Our water tastes terrible too and you can really smell the chlorine, when my little ones take a bath it smells like a swimming pool in the bathroom. This is why we are trying to find a whole home system.
Now, my parents live on a ranch, in the same town, and they have well water. It is much better and cleaner than our water.

Just wanted to add that i think filtered tap water to be the best means, or having those large bottles delivered, or pick them up at the grocery.

If you use a whole-home system, a lot of the water you use like for toilets and stuff doesn't need to be filtered and will contribute to your system needing maintenance and using energy just the same.

An older couple in a neighboring city actually use a water cooler in their home. The tap water is just too yucky for them. They say it doesn't cost them much and is much more palatable.
