So I am at the store i wanted to buy some rolls and some lunch meat, and all they had to use for my 6 rolls was a small plstic bag, i asked for a small papper bag but they didnt have one to give me. The worst part is that the plastic bag is so small that it has no uses in a large marjaroity of house holds. I do think that it would be a good bag for curving your dog but thats not an issue in none city areas for the most part. And to make things worse they also gave me a plastic bag for lunch meat they didnt have any papper like prouducts to wrap it in I was furios. While im bitch to the casher she said "well at least I can give you a papper bag" But wtf waste a paper bag for two damn items? Evrey time i think we make head way with this problem it seems theirs a plastic bag with no alteritive some wear else lurking around the cornor. So what does mean do i have to bring my own papper bags to buy rolls and doughnuts from the supermarkets? I guess so btw. I think we should use papper bags for garbage bags and just get rid of the plastic bag it The Plastic bag is evil!!! Anyways I am at the point were my well thought out thread is turning into a rant so i turn the discusion over to your hands. Has anyone else noticed that even though more and more stores are offering papper alterntives their are still sections of those stores that only have plastic available?
my wife and i never shop without our cloth reusable bags! they can handle so much more weight than paper OR plastic and last for a very long time...
mick, do the environment a favor, forget paper and plastic! go cloth!!!

yes - but what do you use for inside the cloth bag for veggies and bread rolls and so on that Mick was talking about? someone suggested elsewhere that you bring you own little bags, like an empty bread bag - which is a great idea.
That's tough one to answer. We always brought in a bag which was made of such a material that seems to be like plastic but it isn't plastic, we use those bags to buy all kinds of grocery including veggis which is easy to clean up later on. I am not sure how to specify the details of the bag, hope I can post in a picture of it.

ooo... for those i do reuse plastic bags.. also our super market has a bag recyclying center outside so when we're done with them we just through them in the bin... fruits and veggies i just throw them in the cloth bag cause i always wash them off before eating anyway..
I think the cloth bags are the best route to go. I love the idea of the store providing a place for you to put them to recycle them. It's a start anyway.
if you go to a local bakery, you get your bread in a paper bag, you are also supporting a local shop rather than a huge supermarket chain. Problem solved.
alright im 19 and live with my parents and i have 3 younger sissters. We cant allways afford to shop where things arent on sale and i shop were im told to shop. I ant get the answer through chaging stores.
Mick, local doesn't always mean more expensive. You'd be surprised!
Another thing you could do, if there is a bread brand that uses waxed paper, save that in your cloth bag to put rolls and things in to keep them separate from other stuff.
Or if you buy a loaf of sliced bread that comes in a plastic bag, keep that and reuse it. As it will only have had bread in it, it will be clean enough to use.
