Default Hybrid Car

I think this goes here?

Anyways, I was just reading in the paper about a new hybrid by Saturn. I know that we have been looking for a car, and I've been really pushing the hybrid issue with my husband. But for some of the cars that we've been looking at, the price tag was just too much out of our range.

But the Saturn one is only about $28,000 CDN...way cheaper than the ones I was looking at before. I know that others on here were thinking of getting a hybrid car. Thought I might pass the info along just for information purposes.

This is a quote from the link i posted above.

"GM’s Saturn brand intends to produce a VUE Green
Line plug-in electric/gasoline hybrid vehicle that will use a modified version
of GM’s 2-mode hybrid system."

the plug in hybrid does have a lot of potential... add a few solar panels to the roof of your house and u could virtually drive with ZERO emmissions... that would be awsome!

My local radio station did a brief chat on hyrbid cars the other day. They said if you are a freeway driver, they actually don't make that much of a difference. Because the batteries recharge from energy stored while breaking, freeway and highway drivers don't get their batteries charged and end up using fuel. Does that sound right to you?

I was under the impression that since the only energy the car needs while on the highway is to overcome friction from drag and from the tires touching the concrete, which is a lot less energy than people might think.

So that on the freeway a hybrid helps by shutting down most of the cylinders and uses a small amount of engine and a small amount of electricity to give the small push the car needs to get past the wind.
