most of the time my dog does her business in the weeds while on one of our three daily walks. but sometimes when i'm rushed i let her out to go in the yard.. this can accumulate to a lot of crap. in my less environmentally conscience days i use to load it up in plastic bags and throw it in the trash.
lately i've been digging holes about two feet deep with my post hole digger and shoveling it in there. i keep it covered with a big rock and when the hole is about full, i fill in the last two or three inches with dirt.

good idea or bad idea?
any suggestions?

gotta tell you...this is one big reason why I didn't get a pet!!

It's a better plan than in the composter or your own garden depending if you feed your dog any kind of meat. I have a friend who puts it on his garden but when it rains it stinks like dog poop. My garden gets cow poop so it smells like cow poop. I guess it depends on the flavour you prefer. He gave me zucchini after he told me about the dog poop in the garden i couldn't bring myself to eat them because his dogs are husky and I know they eat little more than raw fish and meat.

I spoke with someone some months ago that lives in an apartment and invested in a worm farm suggesting it worked great with no smell and she has compost for the plants on her balcony from her food waste.

Ya thats pretty much why I would never have a dog.

I wonder if local farms would accept it to compost?

i don't think so queen31... dogs eat food made by man, foods that have chemicals and preservatives... things that could be harmful to us if they got into our produce

Ah, that I didn’t realize. So there goes yet another option.

Seems like what you are doing – digging the hole and filling with dirt – might be the best option. I certainly can’t think of any others.
