Thumbs up healthy living

i've been reading alot of post from people concerned about their health and how the environment effects it. i've been very involved in the 'natural' health area the last few years so i thought that i would share some of my findings to becoming and staying healthy

1. watch what goes in!! americans have one of the worst diets in the world. we also use i think around 70% of all the pharmacudical drugs in the world! and, not surprisingly, we are some of the sickest people in the world!
- don't eat fast food!!! this stuff is killer! the chemicals and preservatives in fast food lead to many diseases and weaken the immune system. don't believe me? watch the documentary, 'supersize me'. after only 20 days of eating nothing but McDonalds this guy's THREE doctors told him to stop or he could die! his liver was shutting down, his cholestrol sky rocketed! just bad stuff here.
- don't drink soda pop!! also very toxic stuff.. google a search for the dangers drinking sodas, you won't believe what you read.
- if God didn't make it, if its not found in nature, don't eat it! base your diet around lots of fruits and veggies. whole grain bread and rice. man's 'super' eggs from chickens are bad and raise cholestrol. they are from chickens pumped full of steriods and antibiotics! did you know that free range/ organic fed chickens' eggs actually LOWER cholestrol?! this dosn't mean you can NEVER eat out, but try to limit it aws much as possible. what me and my fiance do is eat healthy all week and eat what we want on the weekends.
- detox! a book called the '7 day miricale detox diet' is a great place to start! you won't believe the difference after one week and your cravings for the 'bad stuff goes way down!!

2. boost your immune system! americans with their poor diets and lack of exercise are constantly getting sick...
- exercise! its a no brainer, our bodies need to move! you don't have to run out and join a gym, hell, 4 nights a week for 30 mins each will help! take a walk, take a run. go for a swim, do aerobics, take karate classes... just get the blood flowing!! my favorite, YOGA! so many health benefits from doing yoga even three times a week! i felt corny doing it at first but wow, this stuff is great!
- reduce stress!!! stress makes your immune system weak! it messes up the ph level of your body.. reduce stress.. take a walk, workout, find a hobby that you enjoy..
-see a chiropractor on a regular schedule!! so many health benifits here also.... helps your immune system, helps your joints and spinal/neck aligment.. can actually prevent bad headaches, reduce allergies and asthma, fix back pain without surgery! find a good one tho.. there are good ones and bad ones out there...

there's more but i have to get ready for church!!

Workinman...in regards to your point one...really, it's GIGO. Garbage in, Garbage out. Even if you can't detox, just put better stuff inside of you. The better the stuff, the better you will be.

And as for point 2, yep, lack of exercise is big. And I know I was guilty of that before hand. I do an activity at leat 5 times a week now for 30 minutes or more. Most of the time, it is just speed walking. If I can sit down and watch a ton of tv, what is my excuse for not doing at least 30 minutes of exercise?! Seriously. If we can sit around for whatever activity for hours at a time, then we can take just 30 minutes to do something else active.

Here is my contribution to that. The impact and consequences of our behavior on our environment seems minimal now but it is our children and future generations which will suffer from those actions. If our environment becomes unhealthy, the health of our children will subsequently become worse.
An unhealthy Environment is conducive to diseases like diarrhea, lower respiratory infections and malaria. By creating our own green and healthful home we can significantly contribute to maintaining bio-diversity and an eco-friendly environment just by the small yet significant choices that we make.

No wonder 33% of americans are obese, more in certain cities and towns. Interestingly enough most of the medications are prescribed for mental illness, depression, anziety, etc....

It's also important to be aware of the toxic side effects of things we sometimes chose to use to keep us 'clean' and 'healthy'

For example - disinfectants and antibacterial cleaners. These are often highly toxic, will out gas at you for years to come, and actually contribute to super bugs. So many, many people insist that it's important for 'healthy living' to use those chemicals. Every time I see a Lyson commercial I want to scream.

also stay away from over the counter drugs... asprin, tylenol, sinus meds, etc... these meds mess our system up more than they help it..

Speaking of health and environment...There is something I always wondered about. Why do baby teeth always come in straight and have such a pretty color , but adult teeth often are not?

The teeth can be (and often are) dammaged before they erupt through the gumline. This can be from all sorts of things, varying from illnesses to vitamin deficiencies and absorption problems, to genetics. My son (who has a genetic craniofacial difference) had baby teeth that erupted grey and were rotten almost immediately. There was nothing we could do about them.

Thats a big part of why dentists are frustrated when people suggest that keeping baby teeth clean is not important - it is very important, because even though they will fall out, their health impacts the growing adult teeth.

It makes me crazy when people feed their children excessive sweets. I know someone whose 4 yr old recently had 16 cavities. Ofcourse this boy eats sweets all day long. And the father is a pharmacist...you would think he would understand the impact on the boys health.
