Default Solar Cooking

Solar Cooking is easy and can be alot of fun for kids, make sure you wear shades. It can also help keep your home cooler in the Summer by baking and cooking outside. Solar Cookers International is a great orginization and their Mission is to assist communities to use the power of the sun to cook food and pasteurize water for the benefit of people and environments. They also manitain a site The Solar Cooking Archive a resource for building, Recipes, supplies, and getting the word out about Solar Cookers. I have been making and cooking with the sun for a couple years now and my personal site is located here please let me know if you have any questions that I may be able to help you with and I keep you up to date with what I'm doing in regards to cooking with the sun.

Wow! Aside from being able to fry an egg on the sidewalk in the summertime, I've never even heard of solar cooking! Sounds like something curious to try while camping in summertime, especially with all of the fire bans due to drought conditions.

I built a box cooker on the weekend and made some soup and bread. You can check it out here The Heaven's Flame Solar Cooker. I also think I have a place to do some demonstrations and classes on solar cooking in Whitby, Ontario this coming Spring.

That is really interesting. I admit that I am spoiled by modern day cooking, because I would go crazy waiting an hour and a half for a jar of soup.

Here in India as we get ample sun light. Solar cookig is by far the best way to cook meals. Although there are not many who do this as it takes a little more time than by using microwaves or burners but the food cooked by solar energy is so so tasty.

We have at our home what is known as a solar cooker. My mom regularly puts vegetables, lentils, rice etc. in different utensils that have been painted black to absorb more sunlight and keeps it in this cooker.

By afternoon , the meal is ready, and tastes absolutely superb!

I have read a lot about solar ovens. I would like to make one someday when I buy a home, but for now, I move around too frequently. There are many how-to instructions on the 'net to build one, too!
