That sounds great. No more detergent to buy. But will the clothes really get clean? And what about all the established detergent companies? Will they like it?

Well, how about this then? There's now a waterless washing machine and the UK's going to give it a spin...sorry, couldn't resist that bad pun! LOL.

Now that I would want - my water bill's ridiculous and I watch what I use.

I would need alot of proof before I bought anything like that! You know, like would it get really muddy and grass-stained clothes clean? What about delicates, or diapers, or something that smells quite objectionable?

I would love to have a washer like this! It would be awesome to not have to worry about running out of laundry detergent.

I use perhaps half as much laundry soap as the box indicates and my clothes come out perfectly clean and without a lot of soap left in the clothes. At least that's something to do until the soapless washing machines become available.

A soapless washing machine? I suppose if it bangs the clothes around enough it might be possible. But wouldn't it take more electricity to do? Here it sounds like saving the environment is between a rock and hard place.

If the soapless washing machine works and if it doesn't take more electricity it would be great. I reuse some of my household water in the garden and it would be good if I could reuse the washine water too.

Sorry Atula, what risk factor?

I really don't see what's such a big deal about these machines. I've not used detergent in my machine for years, and it washes perfectly well. I've got a couple of wash balls in there (not convinced they make any difference but I ahve them so might as well use them) and I add the odd splash of vinegar. Other than that, nothing,

Justontime, you can use your working machine water for your garden. All you have to do is attach a hose to the drain hose and run it out into the garden. My mother used to do this for the garden we had when I was a kid. And we had the biggest tomatoes around.
