To be quite honest, I've been using disposable batteries largely because they are inexpensive and convenient (we have a great dollar store here in town) but the results of this study are eye-opening. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and invest in some rechargables.

Yeah, it's a good idea in the long run even if you're only making the switch in order to save money. I have always wondered where the best places are to expose of old disposable batteries so it's also good to know that auto shops have bins for them. It makes me feel horrible when I toss them into standard waste collection because I do know about the affect they have on the earth when decomposing.

I have a hard time with rechargeable batteries keeping their charge. I would recharge them and then try to use them and in no time they are dead. I feel like I am using more energy to charge and it seems that the some of the point is almost lost such as saving energy. I am always on the search for something that help this issue more.
