Recycling anything that can be recycled is one of my pet projects. We have radiant heat in our home but I find it very wasteful; it heats from the top down. We use space heaters or the fireplace if the living room is too chilly. We eschew heating blankets on the bed so we need to cuddle up under our quilts to get warm.

The things you are doing are great though. One of the things that city dwellers can do is make sure they sort their recycling/garbage themselves because often big urban centers don't have the time to enforce it. Buying local is a good step too.

(Heating blankets? you wimp Evie!)
???? Me? We do not use heating blankets. Never have. We have an assortment of kids that like to crawl in bed with us at any given hour and any day and they are warm little bodies. LOL I have finally gotten into a routine to remember to bring my cloth bags to the grocery store and to reuse my produce bags. This took some time! |

LOL! ooops... Sorry Evie, I meant that wimp Molly
![]() Wish I had gotten the hang of the cloth bag thing. I remember to leave them in the car, so i do shopping, bring bags in to unpack, then forget to put them back in the car for next time! |

LOL, stav.
![]() It did take me a while to get in the groove with the cloth bags. I had to make notes to myself for a while. After I bring in the groceries, I put the bags by my purse or the front door. Then the next time I go to the car I throw them in the back. |

The best way to do it (for me at least) has always been just to toss the cloth bags into the trunk of the car as soon as I'm done unloading the groceries. Before I started doing that I could never remember them and had to keep buying more which kind of defeats the purpose!

I use string bags because they take up very little space, and keep them in my handbag. As soon as I've unloaded them, I put them back. I also keep a couple of old plastic carriers in the car, so I'm never caught without.

I finally got some cloth bags made. When I go to the store I now use them. The thing I like about the most is I know they will never break a plastic bags will. I also recycle all of my aluminum cans. Our trash company doesn't do recycling of other items yet within our mobile home court. They keep saying they're going to put in a recycling bin but have not so far.

Cloth bags really are of a better quality than plastic ones as well. I found that since I've made the switch I'm a much bigger fan of them. They are sturdier, hold more and are much better for the environment. It's really win-win.
