I agree, I do still eat meat but much less than previously and I really would have to be starving before I could eat an animal that I knew. I guess I am just soft.

I grew up on a small farm, where we raised chickens and pigs for food, but I could never do that myself. I get far too attached to animals.

Ann Arbor now allows us to raise chickens if you meet distance requirements from neighbors and get thier permission. I remember researching quiet breeds. I also wanted to raise rabbits, but daughter and wife said they wouldn't harvest them, so we didn't go there, and dropped the chicken idea for a while, but we now get eggs from one of daughters friends, so we're bridging the knowledge experience gap. I remember a poem one time by my Dad as I recall it said as part of it. "Don't let me know,How the cow did bellow, don't let me know how the hammer did fall, just give me my package of celophane MOO". I think it pulls out on display our disconnetedness from our sustainance(sp?).

I was in 4H but kept to baking, canning, and sewing rather than raising animals. Silly me, I told my mom I wanted to raise a sheep because lambs are so cute, and my friend was raising one...then she clued me into what happened to the sheep eventually. I'd never thought of that, city girl as I was!
